Salton Sea Documentary on Amazon Prime

This documentary about the Salton Sea is very informative.  It was released in 2015 and is now part of the Amazon Prime library.  As a commercial appraiser, I have been tracking and reporting on the air quality in conjunction with commercial properties being appraised out in the communities impacted.

Here at Chandos Pacific Appraisal, we are major fans of maps. However, this may be an over-simplification of more complex differences.   For example, there are many Californians that want the north and south of the State of California to be divided.

Secondary Retail Highest & Best Use Shifting In San Diego

Commercial rental rates for secondary retail locations have been lagging throughout most of the San Diego County because of the general shake-up going on with primary retailers that have been bearing most of the brunt of the aggregate retail market shift  - which is part of the post-Amazon effect with other retailers following Amazon into subscription programs.   There has been an evident repositioning of primary and secondary retail to medical office, professional uses, and small boutique schools (karate,  yoga, SAT prep), and more coffee shops.  These newer uses are moving into what were once traditionally retail locations.

As most are aware - the shut down is looming.   If you are having a difficult time moving your blog I would recommend the Google+ Exporter program.  It really is the only game in town for easily moving your blog to a new platform.  It will allow you to download proper blog export files that will easily upload into Blogger or blog platforms that use WordPress.  Using this program requires you to override some security notifications, which made me seriously uncomfortable, (with no offense, intended to the smart, clever, kind and generous person Alois BÄ›laÅ¡k, that developed and made this translation tool available).   Alois I owe you one!  Thank you!!!  If you are worried about security - run the program on an old computer that is out of service - and change your password right away.   Heaven forbid Google from making this a simple process or having tech support that picks up the phone.  If you downloaded your Google+ data but are having trouble uploading the data to a new platform this software developer should be able to help.

Hackers walk off with $130,000 real estate down payment of local family.

Hackers walk off with $130,000 real estate down payment of local family. From the San Diego Union-Tribune, "According to the couple, someone used the escrow company’s exact email to ask for the wire. It even included details only someone working on the sale of the home could know. It had all the names of the people involved in the transaction, the escrow officer, the real estate agent,” said Andrew." This is a scam that usually comes from overseas. The hackers are breaking into email accounts of real estate professionals and reading all their emails looking for deals that are about to close. Your emails leave a digital trail of all the people involved in the deal, required deposits, transaction deadlines, etc. They then hack into your client's accounts and they wait for a strategic time to send an email with their own bank account number. Since the buyers are expecting this email - they follow the instructions and have the funds wired to the hackers account and not the escrow company. Sound scary??? It is. When it comes to important wire transfers - Call and Confirm the bank and routing number directly with the escrow person in charge of your transaction. This scam has happened to others in San Diego. Most people keep the news private and only deal with the FBI. This couple is doing a huge community service by going public with this information and making people aware of this crime. #RealEstate #Scam #SanDiego

SDG&E Fraud Alert: Crooks are calling local San Diego SDG&E Customers

SDG&E Fraud Alert: Crooks are calling local San Diego SDG&E customers at this time saying that their electricity will be turned off in 30 minutes unless they pay a past due amount owed to SDG&E. They then route the call to a billing assistant who tries to get payment over the phone or send you to a fake SDG&E location before 4 PM the same day. When you confront them with information indicating the account should be in good standing - they hang up.

The call will look like it is coming from SDG&E - but it is a fake caller that is spoofing the caller ID system.

Please be sure to alert elderly people about this.

SDG&E will never demand payment over the phone or threaten to cut power over the phone,

Caller ID-Spoofing
One of the especially convincing techniques that con artists use is known as caller ID spoofing. This technique involves the caller disguising his real identify by deliberately falsifying the information being transmitted to your caller ID. Usually, the caller alters the caller ID information to make it look like someone legitimate is calling. For example, in the case of utility scams, the criminals would make it look like SDG&E is calling.

If you are suspicious or made uncomfortable by anyone claiming to be with SDG&E, hang up and call our main customer service line at 1-800-411-7343.
