The mini-dorm dispute continues near SDSU.

The mini-dorm dispute continues near SDSU. Several housing projects are planned on Mission Gorge Road and I-8, however, the area has to go through flood mitigation planning first. Properties that are not designed for higher occupancy have parking ratio problems and the agendas of younger and older residents often do not mix. Ideally, there needs to be more built-to-suit affordable student housing up and down the trolley line near SDSU. Rising rents are making it more difficult for students to finish their degrees. #RealEstate #SDSU

The City is being forced to weigh in on short-term rentals, a relatively new land use phenomenon that the zoning code does not address. If it's not specifically allowed in the code then it is not an outright legal use at this time as far as the City of San Diego is concerned. However, in recent years they have allowed this use and taxed the rental fees. So it's not allowed, but it's being taxed. This newer land use that was brought on by the internet is so widespread that it is expected to take some time for across the board enforcement and the establishment of new regulations. Property owners that fail to ensure quiet enjoyment to their neighbors have been the ones targeted for enforcement and fines thus far. #RealEstate #AirBNB

That's real estate for you.

That's real estate for you. It's a volatile market out there - even for classic Monopoly game tokens. The thimble is out and T-Rex and others are in.

The Brookings Institution has released its 2017 Metro Monitor.

The Brookings Institution has released its 2017 Metro Monitor. The Metro Monitor tracks economic progress in the nation’s 100 largest metropolitan areas (Including San Diego, CA) based on growth and prosperity. This year’s edition focuses on market trends from 2010 to 2015, a period of hastening recovery from the Great Recession. This is a more technical publication regarding metro area productivity and prosperity. You can download the full report or an executive summary. I will be making posts with less technical market trend data soon.
